Bob Sammons
Robert Franklin Sammons was born in January 1937 in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he spent his early years before embarking on a life of diverse accomplishments. In 1954, at the age of 17, he joined the United States Air Force, serving as a skilled Radio and Radar Electronic Technician, a role that showcased his technical aptitude and dedication to service. After his military tenure, he transitioned to a career at Raytheon Corporation, where he worked as an Electronic Technician on the Navy’s Sparrow III Missile program, contributing to critical defense technology during a pivotal era.
In 1959, Bob married Betty Jo Smith, his beloved partner, and together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and creative pursuits. The couple relocated to Arlington, Texas, in 1973 to pursue higher education at Bible Baptist Seminary and Arlington Baptist College. Bob earned a Bachelor of Divinity (BD) from the seminary and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the college, where he was elected Senior Class President, reflecting his leadership and respect among peers. Betty Jo earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, and both graduated with honors, demonstrating their commitment to academic excellence.
Beyond his professional and academic achievements, Bob was a man of deep faith and service. He served as a deacon and Bible teacher, sharing his knowledge and passion for scripture with his community. He played a key role in organizing a church in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he taught adult Sunday school classes, fostering spiritual growth among congregants. A man of many talents, Bob was also a successful businessman, singer, songwriter, and author, blending his creative and intellectual gifts to inspire others.
